VERMONT GREEN MOUNTAIN MAYHEM OUTLAW

Although the racing didn’t go as planned, it ended up being a pretty fun weekend of shredding in the green mountains of Brattleboro, Vermont. Skaters from as far south as Virginia, and as far north as Montreal began to show up at my house Saturday afternoon, to a torrential rainstorm.

That didn’t stop us, as a few of us went out and skated some really fun corners in the wet. As Saturday night rolled around, skating stopped and we had some RAD chili for dinner. I got up early in the morning to go check out the race hill, and expectedly, it was soaked. However, I got back and decided to just postpone the start time a couple hours to see if it would dry out. In the meantime, a group of almost 20 people went and hit all the very slippery fun spots around town. Everyone was killing it! At around 11, the final stragglers arrived, including comet riders Keith Rebhorn and Anthony Flis. At around noon, we headed out with a huge caravan of cars to the race hill. But it was wet! Although the hill was semi-skatable in the wet, I didn’t feel comfortable having someone get really hurt trying to push it through the last wet chicane at high speed. We then moved out to the backup hill, which was a dry, 50mph bomb. We ended up getting two heats down before tons of neighbors told us to get out, and after a final "party run", with the whole group bombing the hill, the cops rolled in. We made a hasty retreat back to my house. Pizza was ordered, and some really gnarly skaters respectably went back and skated the fast hill, dudes were shredding! Overall, a fun weekend with fun hills, great pizza, and great skaters!

Driving 14 hours round trip in 36 hours to skate in the rain with my friends from north of the border is what I call fun. Needless to say I did not make it to my 8am class on monday morning. I got two hours of sleep in hoboken saturday night after arriving at 3am and slept a little on the drive back to Hoboken to get my car for the final four hour drive back to VA. THAT IS WHAT SKATEBOARDING IS ABOUT! Do it all for the stoke and keep searching for Mr. Wonton Animal Chin baby! The lack of race and lack of people wanting to continue skating after the cops came was a huge bummer and I’m dissappointed in a large number of people but can understand if 50 on wet roads isn’t your cup of tea. All I’m going to say is that YOU SUCKAS MISSED OUT ON GNAR! BEAST COAST!

Some of us had other stuff to do after the race. Sucks that you are so disappointed…

A great way to fail out of college, by going to a busted race instead. Good choice.
