SLO Slide Jam | Comet Skateboards

I got a call from Comet team rider Byron Essert one afternoon; he was talking about how the Sunset Sliders (a famous crew from San Francisco) were loading up a van and heading to the Central Coast of California. The purpose was to attend the first San Luis Obispo slide jam put on by Trent Skate and Mike Roberts. Van trips are always super fun and pretty hilarious and the Sunset Sliders always know how to have a good time so I asked to have a seat saved. We embarked from the Sunset district last Friday night with a stacked crew of 12 NorCal rippers. Our captain: Big Dave, a Comet homie, San Francisco OG and all around shredder. We left the Sunset way later than expected so we didn’t get into SLO until 2 am. We rolled into a friend’s “skate ranch” in SLO grogy and ready to sleep. Everyone ended up passing out in pretty random spots which was funny; luckily I scored myself a spot in a nice tent.

8am came too quickly the next morning, but we loaded up the van and rolled out to the riders meeting in a Wal-Mart parking lot. After everyone was registered and the rules had been gone over we met up at the first hill. The hill was sweet, but unfortunately the 5-0 showed up and we were forced to relocate.
The second location was nice and tucked away so the fuzz were not a worry. The steep top section and 90 degree left in the middle of the hill made for a good slide jam. After jamming out for a while the top 10 riders were chosen to advance to the finals. Each final rider was given 2 runs to show off for the judges and spectators. It was a super fun day and back at the ranch Byron Essert was awarded “smoothest run” and held it down for team Comet the whole weekend.
After a somewhat late start on Sunday morning the van was loaded up and ready to hit the road. We were hoping to hit some skate spots along the way but due to time constraints the only spot we hit was a McDonalds which we were completely happy with. When we arrived back in the Bay the Sunset was just how we had left it: foggy.
